Yorkshire Motorsport Festival

One year from now…the countdown re-starts.

Friday 26th June, should have marked the opening day of the inaugural Yorkshire Motorsport Festival. Holmfirth was due to get a major influx of visitors, with the Festival site – just outside of the picturesque Yorkshire town – set to welcome sport and motoring enthusiasts from all over the region – and beyond –  as well as families in search of a great day out.

Obviously, for reasons of which we are all too well aware, the fields designated to house the Festival are going to be quietthis weekend… but, a year from now, this won’t be the case. The Wolfstones Hillclimb course, just outside Holmfirth town, will be resonating with the sound and feel of racing cars at high speed – as part of a wider celebration of the motor vehicle, Yorkshire achievement and the human spirit in general, which is built around the hillclimb and which will be getting into full swing!

Since the necessary rescheduling of the event, the organisers have been extremely busy behind-the-scenes, preparing the way for the Festival to make its debut in 2021.

“We are delighted to re-start the official countdown to the first Yorkshire Motorsport Festival, now set for June 25-27th2021,” enthuses Yorkshire Motorsport Festival joint-MD, Michael McErlain. “I am pleased that we will have everything we talked about for 2020 – and significantly more – on offer for 2021, so stand by for some major announcements in the near future.

“In the meanwhile, I would truly like to thank the public who bought tickets, as well as the trade stand-holders &commercial partners we had on board for 2020 and Kirklees Council. Almost without exception, everyone has stuck with us and committed to being on board for 2021 – which is incredibly heartening. We will look to repay them by delivering an event in June next year that will more than justify their faith in us.”

The Yorkshire Motorsport Festival, will host some of the world’s most fabulous machines, both on display and in action, as well as a huge variety of other attractions on its 100-acre site.

The organisers aim to provide something for everyone, to make it a great family outing. The Festival will include a Fun Fair, Live Music Arena, trade stands, feature Villages, fashion shows, cheerleading demonstrations, birds of prey shows, the amazing sheep theatre and more…

The competitive focal point of the Festival is the Wolfstones Speed Hillclimb – Yorkshire’s first closed-road speed event this century. The 0.8-mile Hillclimb course (Start Line view to first corner pictured above) should provide a challenge for close-on a hundred competitors and exciting viewing for spectators, as the cars power through the Holme Valley, an area that this year celebrates a century of hosting this type of motorsport.

On display at the Festival for Petrolheads, will be everything from race & rally cars, through classics & supercars to historic trucks, tractors and plant machinery, as well as street rods, muscle cars. A fantastic selection of exotica is also being assembled for the first ever, Northern Concours d’Elegance – a beauty pageant for cars.

In these tough times, it will also be good news for the local economy, not just because of the influx of visitors but also because Festival will be looking to recruit locally in both the run-up to the event and during it. There will therefore be some excellent opportunities for people looking for work as the Festival organisation gets into top gear.

The Festival website – www.yorkshiremotorsportfestival.co.uk – and related Facebook and twitter apps will provide more details and news for visitors, participants and businesses.
