TyreSafe Supports NPCC Roads Policing Operation July 2024

TyreSafe proudly announces its support for the NPCC’s Roads Policing Operation, running from July 1st to 31st, 2024. This vital initiative aims to address the peak in collisions and Killed or Seriously Injured (KSI) incidents involving the “fatal four” factors—speeding, drink and drug driving, not wearing seat belts, and distracted driving—alongside heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), motorcyclists, and cyclists.

In July, historically, the number of collisions and KSIs involving these groups rises significantly. TyreSafe believes that tyre safety should be considered the “fatal fifth” factor, as KSIs related to tyres are on a par with incidents caused by mobile phone use.

Stuart Lovatt, Chair of TyreSafe, said: “Tyres are the only part of a vehicle that make contact with the road, and their condition is crucial for safe driving. Ensuring tyres are properly maintained and inflated can significantly reduce the risk of incidents. We are hopeful that by supporting the NPCC’s Roads Policing Operation, we can highlight the critical role tyre safety plays in preventing collisions and saving lives.”

The NPCC’s Roads Policing Operation will include increased enforcement and awareness campaigns targeting all road users. The operation will focus on:

  • Enforcement: Increased roadside checks to ensure compliance with tyre safety standards, alongside checks for the “fatal four” factors.
  • Education: Public awareness campaigns highlighting the dangers of driving with improperly maintained tyres and the importance of regular tyre checks.
  • Collaboration: Working with various stakeholders, including TyreSafe, to disseminate critical safety information and resources to drivers, motorcyclists, cyclists, and HGV operators.

TyreSafe’s involvement will include providing educational materials on tyre maintenance, proper inflation, and the signs of tyre wear and damage. By equipping road users with this knowledge, TyreSafe aims to reduce the number of tyre-related KSIs.

TyreSafe’s commitment to promoting tyre safety aligns perfectly with the NPCC’s goals, and together, they aim to make a tangible impact on road safety during this critical month.
