TyreSafe has been honoured with an award at the prestigious Institute of Master Tutors of Driving (IMTD) Awards 2025, which recognise outstanding achievements and contributions to driver training and road safety.
The organisation received the accolade for its outstanding ongoing contribution to road safety, with particular recognition for its work to engage and support new and young drivers, a group widely recognised as vulnerable on UK roads.
Through partnerships with driving schools, instructors, and training establishments, TyreSafe has worked to embed essential tyre safety practices into driver education. This includes providing accessible resources to help instructors deliver TyreSafe’s simple but powerful ‘ACT’ message – Air pressure, Condition, Tread – alongside clear instructional and educational content demonstrating how to perform regular tyre checks.
In addition to direct engagement with learners, TyreSafe continues to strengthen its case for action on tyre safety through research, campaigning, and collaboration with industry partners, local authorities, charities, and other road safety organisations. By placing tyres firmly on the road safety agenda, TyreSafe is helping to ensure that future generations of drivers develop safe and responsible tyre maintenance habits, reducing the risk of unnecessary tyre-related incidents.
Stuart Lovatt, TyreSafe Chair, said, “We are delighted to receive this recognition from the IMTD. Young and new drivers face a steep learning curve when it comes to developing safe road behaviours, and too often tyre safety is overlooked. Our work with driving instructors and training organisations is about giving this group the knowledge and practical skills to make tyre safety second nature from the very beginning of their driving lives. This award is a tribute to the commitment of our supporters and partners who help us to spread this vital message.”
The IMTD Awards, sponsored by Geveko Markings, celebrate innovative projects, sustainable practices, and long-term programmes that make a tangible difference to driver training and road safety. TyreSafe will be formally presented with the award on the 14th September in Coventry.
