TyreSafe, the UK’s charity dedicated to raising awareness of tyre safety, has announced a new partnership with BikeMarshals, the highly trained volunteer motorcycle marshals supporting safe events across the UK.
Founded over 20 years ago by Mark Anson from the Wirral, BikeMarshals began as a small group of bikers helping to make charity rides safer. Today, under the leadership of Barrie Green, Graham Jones, and Gary Reece, all veterans of the emergency services, the group has grown into a respected national presence, covering events from cycle races and marathons to parades, charity rides, and even high-profile media stunts.
Every BikeMarshal is an advanced rider, trained to the standards of the Institute of Advanced Motorists or RoSPA, with many also holding emergency services experience. The team’s members are trained in incident management and emergency first aid, carrying first aid kits, AED defibrillators, and using emergency services protocols to respond to incidents quickly and effectively.
Through the partnership, TyreSafe and BikeMarshals will work together to embed TyreSafe’s ACT message — Air Pressure, Condition, Tread into event safety communications, rider training, and public engagement. The collaboration will also see the two organisations sharing expertise, delivering joint safety messages, and raising awareness of how regular tyre checks can save lives, whether for motorcycles, cars, or event support vehicles.
Stuart Lovatt, Chair of TyreSafe, said, “BikeMarshals have an incredible track record of keeping people safe at events, often being the first on the scene when something goes wrong. Their professionalism, training, and dedication align perfectly with TyreSafe’s mission to prevent avoidable incidents. By working together, we can ensure tyre safety becomes an even more visible part of event safety culture, reaching thousands of riders, drivers, and spectators across the country.”
Gary Reece, Training Lead for BikeMarshals, said, “Our role has always been about prevention and quick intervention, being the eyes and ears of event organisers and providing reassurance to participants and the public. Tyre safety plays a huge part in that. A simple tyre check before setting off can mean the difference between an enjoyable day and a serious incident. Partnering with TyreSafe gives us the tools and resources to put that message front and centre at every event we support.”
BikeMarshals’ presence stretches far beyond the North West, with the group regularly travelling nationwide to support high-profile events, often working alongside local authorities, emergency services, and leading event organisers. With TyreSafe’s backing, they will now integrate targeted tyre safety advice into their pre-event briefings, public announcements, and rider engagement helping to reduce risks for all road users involved.
