Following an initial size launched in summer 2024, the MICHELIN X-CRANE 2 is now available in size 445/95 R 25 178F TL. This tyre has been designed particularly for all-terrain and mobile tower cranes, for on and off-road use, combining a construction casing with a Michelin inspired truck tyre tread. The MICHELIN X-CRANE 2 was created in collaboration with leading companies in the industry and is based on more than a decade of experience. It was developed for the specific requirements of cranes and offers high performance in terms of reliability, energy efficiency and productivity.
Strong and fast
The new MICHELIN X-CRANE 2 weighs 5% less than its predecessor, the MICHELIN X- CRANE +. Its low rolling resistance reduces carbon emissions through enhanced fuel efficiency, resulting in lower operational costs. Compared to the main competitor, the fuel consumption of machines fitted with this tyre is reduced by 13.3%, corresponding to around 826 litres of fuel or roughly £1,111 saved, with a crane that has a mileage of 10,000 kilometres (6213,7 miles). It allows vehicles to carry heavier loads at the same speed thanks to the new load and speed index, changing from 174F to 178F. Thanks to its new casing, the MICHELIN X-CRANE 2 can carry 800 kg (1,764 lb) more per tyre when travelling at 80 kph (50 mph). This increased load capacity represents an additional load of 1.6 metric tons per axle. At the same time, engineers were able to reduce heat build-up, resulting in enhanced durability and performance under demanding conditions.
Consistent performance
The tyre’s braking performance has also been further improved: on wet roads, the braking distance of the MICHELIN X-CRANE 2 is 21% shorter than that of its main competitor. With M+S marking, the 445/95 R 25 size is also suitable for use in mud and snow. The tyre tread features the Michelin REGENION technology. REGENION stands for different types of lamellae that form a changing profile, giving the tyre high levels of grip and traction throughout its entire service life and in all weather conditions. To create these complex treads, the tyre moulds are partially manufactured using a process called 3D metal printing. REGENION also reduces tread deformation and rolling resistance which lowers fuel consumption.
