Prometeon Drives Fleet Reliability for Wrights Operations

Prometeon Tyre Group, a leading company in the development, production and marketing of tyres for the commercial, agricultural and OTR sectors, has secured a new customer contract with Wrights of Twycross, helping the specialist operator reduce tyre damage, introduce a more structured tyre management strategy and bring much greater visibility to fleet maintenance activity.

With over 65 years in business, Wrights of Twycross is a family-run wastewater and biosolids transport specialist based on the border of Warwickshire and Leicestershire, serving clients across the UK. The business works closely with major water utility companies including Anglian Water, Severn Trent, Thames Water, United Utilities and Yorkshire Water, transporting material between treatment works and delivering biosolids onward to agricultural land. Wrights of Twycross is part of the wider P.A. Wright and Sons group, whose farming interests include cereals, potatoes, carrots, parsnips, sugar beet and onions.

Specialist Fleet, Demanding Duty Cycle

Operating 24/7 from four operating bases, including two sites in Twycross as well as bases in Hinckley and Kettering, Wrights runs a sizeable and highly specialised fleet of around 200 vehicles, plus a further 65 vans. The fleet includes specialist tankers and tippers, including jet-vacuum tankers, ranging from 26 to 44 tonnes, with vehicles typically covering around 100,000 miles annually apiece. Working across highways, utility sites, rural roads, farm tracks and other off-road terrain, the fleet has a demanding duty cycle where tyre choice, service response and maintenance visibility are critical to uptime.

Before partnering with Prometeon, Wrights had no single tyre strategy in place. Tyre fitment had largely been left to the service providers maintaining the fleet, resulting in a wide and inconsistent mix of brands being fitted across vehicles, often with little consideration of the type of work those vehicles were doing or the terrain they were travelling on. For a business running a complex, time-critical transport operation, it had become clear that this approach was costing time and money, and that a more structured tyre strategy was needed.

From Mixed Tyre Fitment to a Structured Approach

Chris Harvey, Workshop Manager at Wrights of Twycross, said: “We had been seeing issues with tyres splitting and damage from stones getting into the tread, especially on some of the more rural routes. Since moving over to Prometeon, that has reduced significantly.”

He added: “Before, we were getting all different makes and types of tyres fitted that did not always suit the work we do. They just could not stand up to the terrain. We needed the right tyres on the right vehicles, and now we have total confidence that that is happening.”

Wrights says the issue was not simply upfront cost, but the lack of a proper strategy behind what was being fitted. In some cases, cheaper products were being used that did not last. In others, more expensive tyres still did not suit the application. By contrast, the Prometeon approach has focused on matching the right tyre to the right vehicle and looking at the bigger picture in terms of durability, downtime and whole-life value.

Working alongside service provider Tanvic, Prometeon has introduced a more structured, application-led approach to tyre management, helping ensure products are matched more closely to vehicle role, terrain and duty cycle. For much of the fleet, that includes the fitment of Prometeon G02 tyres, selected for their chunkier tread pattern and greater durability in tougher operating conditions. The result has been greater consistency across the fleet, improved service support and reduced call-out pressure when vehicles are working away from base.

Greater Visibility, Compliance and Confidence

A major improvement has come from Prometeon’s Pro Management portal, which gives Wrights access to tyre inspection records, maintenance activity and supporting documentation in one place. For the Wrights team, that means far better traceability over what has been fitted, when work has been completed and how it links back to internal records.

Nigel Muddimer, Compliance Manager at Wrights of Twycross, explained: “The transparency is a big win for us. We can go back onto the Prometeon portal and see what has been fitted, when it was done, and match that up with our own records. We know exactly which tyre has been fitted to which vehicle because we can trace it back. From a compliance point of view, that gives us real confidence.”

He added: “It also means we are not chasing bits of paper. Everything is digitised, so from both an operational and maintenance perspective it is a much better system for us.”

For an operation where vehicles are often dispatched at short notice, tyre reliability is critical. Wrights’ fleet supports time-sensitive movements from wastewater treatment sites, where biosolids need to be moved on quickly to avoid storage pressures, minimise odour issues and keep operations running smoothly.

Wrights says the move has already delivered a noticeable improvement. Tyre failures have reduced, call-out pressure has eased, and the team now has far greater confidence when presenting vehicles for MOT.

Looking at the Bigger Picture

Asked if he would recommend Prometeon tyres to other operators, Muddimer said: “Yes, get a set of trial tyres on and try Prometeon. You have got to look at the bigger picture. It might seem more expensive at first, but if the tyre lasts longer and stands up better to the job, it costs you far less in the long run.”

Without the move to Prometeon and Tanvic, Muddimer said Wrights would likely still be trialling different options and looking for a better way to manage the fleet’s tyre requirements. He described the relationship as a “true partnership” built around product quality, dependable service and a “shared focus on keeping the operation moving”.

Luke Morris, Business Development Manager at Prometeon Tyre Group, commented: “Wrights of Twycross operates in a highly specialised and demanding environment, so this was never about simply supplying tyres. It was about understanding how the fleet works, where the previous weaknesses were, and then putting a proper tyre management structure in place with the right service support behind it.”

He added: “By working closely with Tanvic and the Wrights team, we have been able to introduce a much more consistent and transparent approach across the fleet. It is very pleasing to hear the positive feedback from Nigel and Chris, and we look forward to continuing to support the business with a strategy that helps keep their vehicles moving safely, efficiently and with confidence.”
