Michelin Launches Primacy 5 Energy and Pilot Sport 5 Energy

With summer tyres accounting for around 80% of global annual tyre sales, Michelin is reinforcing the importance of this segment with the launch of MICHELIN Primacy 5 Energy and MICHELIN Pilot Sport 5 Energy, two new ranges designed to meet the evolving demands of modern mobility.

As electrification accelerates, vehicle manufacturers require tyres that combine low rolling resistance, strong grip, extended longevity and precise handling. The new MICHELIN Primacy 5 Energy  and MICHELIN Pilot Sport 5 Energy have been engineered to meet these requirements, helping increase electric vehicle range, reduce fuel consumption, and deliver high levels of performance without compromising safety or durability. Both ranges are already approved by leading global automotive manufacturers.

Jean-Claude Pats, Automobile and Two-Wheel Business Line Director and member of Michelin’s Executive Committee, said: “These innovations reflect a profound transformation in mobility. Today’s tyres must combine performance, longevity and energy efficiency while supporting the transition to electrified vehicles. With MICHELIN Primacy 5 Energy and MICHELIN Pilot Sport 5 Energy, drivers and manufacturers no longer need to compromise between performance, safety, durability and efficiency. These new ranges demonstrate Michelin’s continued investment in innovation and our ambition to deliver technologies that support the mobility needs of today and tomorrow.”

MICHELIN Primacy 5 Energy: The Triple‑A Tyre with the Best Longevity in its Segment

Long‑Lasting Safety

The MICHELIN Primacy 5 Energy range is rated A for wet braking, delivering braking distances up to 8% shorter than its predecessor, both when new and worn to 2 mm tread depth.

Best‑in‑Class Longevity

Thanks to Energy Passive 2.0 Technology, which incorporates functionalised elastomers, new resins and an optimised architecture, the MICHELIN Primacy 5 Energy  delivers the best mileage in its European segment, including on electric vehicles. Independent testing confirmed significantly longer lifespan than leading competitors, lasting up to 40% longer in comparable conditions.

Energy Efficiency Leadership

With an A rating for rolling resistance, the tyre delivers measurable efficiency benefits, including:

  • Up to 6% lower fuel consumption (approximately 0.3 L per 100 km)
  • Up to 10% additional range for electric vehicles
  • Up to £147 (€169) in fuel savings and a 327kg reduction of CO₂ emissions
  • Up to 70 km (43 miles) of additional driving range per charge

Acoustic Comfort

With an A rating for external rolling noise, the MICHELIN Primacy 5 Energy is up to four times quieter than a C-rated tyre, contributing to a quieter drive.

Availability

33 sizes from 16-19 inches are now available.

MICHELIN Pilot Sport 5 Energy: Sports Performance Meets Energy Efficiency

Designed for drivers who expect dynamic handling alongside energy efficiency, the MICHELIN Pilot Sport 5 Energy  brings together Michelin’s motorsport expertise and efficiency-focused technologies.

Precision and Grip

Developed with Michelin’s motorsport expertise, Dynamic Response Technology and a new Adaptive Grip Compound deliver precise handling and superior grip in both wet and dry conditions.

Enhanced Longevity

Thanks to MaxTouch® Technology, the tyre tackles a key challenge for performance cars: faster wear. The optimised contact patch ensures even wear, while an Energy Passive compound on the shoulders reduces rolling resistance to unprecedented levels for a sport tyre. It significantly outperforms key competitors in longevity tests and holds an A rating for rolling resistance.

Tested in Extreme Conditions

The tyre’s capabilities were proven during the MERCEDES AMG GT CONCEPT XX world record, maintaining a constant 300 km/h (186 mph) for almost eight days – confirming its exceptional endurance and energy efficiency.

Availability

19 sizes from 19-21 inches are available now.
