Merityre Bracknell has issued a rallying call for motorists to carry out some simple tyre checks after uncovering a worrying number of issues during a community checking event in the town with Bridgestone.
The Merityre team carried out 57 complimentary car inspections during the four-hour event at Waitrose on Friday (18th September), with 10 of 57 tyres checked found to need urgent attention.
The results highlighted the importance of motorists checking their tyres regularly rather than waiting until an MOT to discover potential problems, with some tyres found to have bulges and penetrations, which represented significant safety concerns.
The event was staged by Merityre in partnership with Bridgestone as part of its wider “Be a Bridgestone Road Safety Hero” campaign, which is encouraging motorists to take simple, practical steps to improve tyre safety. As part of the initiative, motorists were also given complementary tyre safety packs containing advice on checking tread depth, tyre pressures and overall tyre condition.
Darren Smeeth, general manager at Merityre, said: “We were delighted with how successful the event was and, more importantly, with the number of motorists we were able to speak to about the importance of looking after their tyres.
“Finding that 10 of the 57 cars we checked needed urgent attention really underlined why regular checks are so important. A tyre can look fine at first glance, but taking a few minutes to check its condition, tread depth and pressure can make a real difference to safety.
“We’re proud to have been able to work with Bridgestone on the event and bring practical tyre safety advice directly to motorists in the local community. We’d encourage everyone to make the most of Tyre Safety Month by checking their tyres regularly and getting professional advice if they have any concerns.”
The event followed the opening of Merityre’s new Western Road branch in June and formed part of its commitment to supporting motorists in the local community. The branch is Merityre’s 25th site across the southeast of England and offers tyres, batteries, exhausts, brakes, air conditioning, repairs and car servicing, alongside its newly DVSA-approved MOT bay.
Merityre is continuing to offer complimentary tyre inspections throughout October as part of National Tyre Safety Month, giving motorists another opportunity to have their tyres checked and address any potential issues before they become a safety concern.
