A family-run Huddersfield business is celebrating after reaching a remarkable milestone.
The team at Northern Tyre & Battery Service Ltd (NBS), a cornerstone of Huddersfield’s automotive community, are celebrating the firm’s 75th year, a platinum anniversary to match its sparkling reputation.
Supporting generations of motorists and businesses with tyres, the renowned business, which is based in Thornton Lodge, was founded in 1950 by the late Harry Dyson.
Harry started with the purchase of just 10 six-volt batteries, with NBS growing from those humble beginnings into one of the UK’s largest tyre wholesalers, supplying national companies while maintaining its core garage services.
After selling its wholesale arm and other branches, NBS refocused on its Huddersfield heartland at its Longroyd Bridge headquarters, where it continues to operate today.
A significant factor in the company’s enduring success is its exceptional staff retention. Indeed, the team boasts more than 100 years’ combined experience, with long-servers Darren Peacock, Marc Tiplady and Alex Bowley alone representing the business for a combined 87 years, with the team now having shareholder status for their loyalty over the years.
General manager Darren, who has been with NBS for 45 years, said: “We are incredibly proud to reach this 75-year milestone. It is a testament to our founder, Harry Dyson, whose legacy of quality and community spirit continues to guide us.
“Most of all, we thank the people of Huddersfield. Their support through economic ups and downs, including recent challenging times, has been overwhelming. We wouldn’t be here without them and we look forward to keeping Huddersfield moving safely for another 75 years.”
Sara Morrow, co-director at NBS, said: “We are also profoundly grateful to our dedicated team, whose expertise and loyalty are the backbone of this business.”
NBS remains committed to the values it was built on, including providing expert advice, high-quality products from leading wholesalers such as Micheldever Tyre Services (MTS), and a deeply personal service that modern, corporate chains cannot match.
Brian Donaldson, from MTS, congratulated NBS on reaching its platinum anniversary: “To keep serving the community for 75 years, providing high quality products and service, is a real testament to the dedication of everyone at NBS.
“They are a delight to work with and we wish them all the best for the next 75 years!”
