Goodyear Launches New Studded Tyre with Unbeaten Ice Braking, Snow Braking & Handling Performance

Goodyear announces its latest winter innovation, the new studded UltraGrip Arctic 2 tyre for passenger cars and SUV. The tyre comes with Arctic Eagle Claw – Goodyear’s next generation stud technology – and delivers excellent performance on ice and snow, while offering a more comfortable drive thanks to reduced interior noise levels compared to the predecessor.

Drivers in Russia and the Nordic and Baltic regions require tyres that offer them performance and grip in tough and shifting winter conditions. According to a recent survey, 74% of consumers in Sweden and 89% in Russia are considering buying a studded product for their next purchase of winter tyres**.

Piotr Nagalski, Marketing Director, Goodyear Europe said: “The UltraGrip Arctic 2 has been developed to enable drivers to have the road control they seek during winter and at the same time give them a more comfortable drive on their next adventure.”

The technologies behind the performance:

  • Arctic Eagle Claw Stud unbeaten ice braking performance*

13%* better braking performance on ice compared to the next best tested competitor. The Arctic Eagle Claw stud has a sharp pin shape for optimal ice grip and an innovative anchoring system for improved stud retention of the tyre, which enables ice performance throughout the lifetime of the tyre. In combination with increased number of studs, now up to 220 per tyre, this leads to unbeaten ice braking performance*.

  • Snow Grip Technology – unbeaten snow braking and handling*

The new Snow Grip Technology provides strong performance in all snow conditions through wider grooves and higher edge density. All these improvements were proved by Test World, where UltraGrip Arctic 2 performed best in snow braking and handling in the test*.

  • Noise Control – 9% lower noise***

9% less interior noise compared to its predecessor *** due to optimised stud distribution and the implementation of a new stud cushion that absorbs noise when the stud hits the road.

The new studded tyres come with a lineup of 47 new SKUs for passenger cars covering sizes from 16 to 20-inch tyres and 49 sizes for SUVs from 17 to 21-inch. All sizes will be introduced between May 2021 and February 2023.
