Giti Tire’s European truck and bus portfolio has utilised its latest tyre launch to highlight a move to a range of tyres delivering vastly improved Rolling Resistance Coefficient (RRC) – the Giti GDL617 Ecoroad.
The new tyre, based on the popular Giti GDL617 long-haul drive pattern, features a new and innovative tread compound which significantly lowers hysteresis generation to raise the RRC up two grades to a B.
Initially available in the popular size 315/70R22.5, it is aimed at pulling units for all long-haul highway application semi-trailer operations including, but not limited to, curtain side, silo, refrigerated and walking floor trailers as well as container transportation.
Other major design features include one main zig-zag centre groove in combination with two laterals for effective water evacuation and a high level of traction in every road condition, plus stone ejectors to prevent the bottom groove from casing damage.
Shoulder blocks are connected with robust tie-bar to enhance the pattern stiffness to result in even wear for superior mileage, while low noise and controlled abrasion result in a safe and comfortable journey. The tyre carries the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol.
Development of the Giti GDL617 Ecoroad was led by Giti Tire’s European Research & Development Centre in Hannover, Germany.
Antonio Palummo, TBR Senior Engineer – Europe for Giti Tire, said: “The new Ecoroad tyre represents the first in a series of new truck and bus products delivering energy saving solutions through lower RRC, in this instance delivering a two-step improvement to B from D.
“We are always very aware of the fine balance operators need to address between environmental impact, tyre performance and operational profit, and we can confirm R&D is already working on a complete Ecoroad portfolio including steer, drive and trailer tyres ranked A in RRC.”
