Continental has seen double success, as the WinterContact™ TS 870 came second in the Auto Express Winter tyre test and the WinterContact™ TS 870 P came joint first place in the Tyre Reviews’ 2021 Winter tyre test.
The new WinterContact™ TS 870, has some notable improvements against its equally impressive predecessor, the award-winning WinterContact™ TS 860. Continental’s experts have designed a new tyre that has been developed from the ground up, featuring a newly created tread pattern design, construction, and compound. The resulting tyre offers excellent winter performance and good wet-weather properties. This is evidenced in the tyre test, where it was tested in size 225/45R17.
Steve Fowler, editor-in-chief of Auto Express, said: “With a trio of category wins in our winter tyre test, the Continental WinterContact™ TS 870 was a standout performer. Following on from this success is a win for the WinterContact™ TS 870 P in the Tyre Review Winter tyre test. The test focused on tyres for the milder winter climates, often found in central Europe, using the popular size 225/40R18.
The WinterContact™ TS 870 P demonstrated its strength in different weather conditions, showing a strong performance in dry, wet and snowy conditions. When compared to its predecessor, the WinterContact™ TS 850 P, the new tyre offers enhanced handling, shorter braking distances and a 16 per cent increase in mileage. As found on the WinterContact™ TS 870, the tyre features an enhanced Cool Chili compound and Hydro Grooves, further improving the tyre’s braking and aquaplaning performance.
