Continental has been selected as an original equipment supplier for Nissan: the new all-electric Nissan N7 will come factory-fitted with Continental’s EcoContact 7 in the 19-inch size. In this dimension, the tyre achieves top ratings in the EU tyre label categories for energy efficiency and rolling noise.
The EcoContact 7’s high energy efficiency is thanks to a new rubber compound and the Smart Energy Casing technology. Innovative materials in the tyre’s carcass, inner liner and sidewall reduce internal friction and thus lower rolling resistance. The tyre’s aerodynamically optimised sidewall design further increases efficiency. To achieve this, Continental combines several technologies, including its “aerodimple” structure, inspired by the surface of golf balls. The dimples integrated into the tyre sidewall minimise air turbulence behind the tyre, helping to reduce the vehicle’s energy consumption.
Continental also sets standards for noise comfort: the Silent Pattern tyre tread pattern significantly lowers rolling noise. The spacing and angles of the tread blocks have been specifically optimised to reduce the noise frequencies typically generated in urban traffic. The result is a quieter driving experience for the vehicle occupants and lower noise levels for the surrounding environment.
