Continental is the National Tyre Distributors Association’s (NTDA) Tyre Manufacturer of the Year 2026, with the title announced at the trade body’s annual awards event last week.
The prestigious award recognises a holistic approach to tyre manufacturing and considers the responsibility that a brand has to their customers, employees and the wider automotive industry. It also topped off a notable evening for the brand, which saw Managing Director Tracey Mortimer receive the Chairman’s Award and Steve Howat inducted with Honorary Life Membership of the NTDA.
In the last 12 months, Continental has continued to innovate significantly across its passenger, commercial vehicle and speciality tyre portfolios. This includes the launch of the SportContact 7 Force tyre, developed for the BRABUS Bodo supercar, as well as the introduction of the adaptable EcoContact 7 and EcoContact 7 S. Developments in the bus and coach sector were focused around the Continental Urban HA5 NXT.
Technical training and knowledge sharing has remained a key area of focus for Continental. In response to ongoing industry concerns around commercial vehicle wheel security, the tyre manufacturer enhanced its specialist training provision to include dedicated sessions on the topic. This, in turn, has helped technicians and fleet operators to reduce risk, bolster maintenance standards and support safer vehicle operation.
Beyond the classroom, Continental’s commitment to education can be seen across its PR, marketing and communications channels. The launch of a 12-part ‘Scott Says’ social media series, addressing common consumer tyre questions, sat alongside Continental’s ‘Respect for Retreads’ campaign, which sought to confront widely held myths associated with remanufactured tyres.
For employees, Continental creates an environment where staff feel informed and supported. A UK-wide roadshow saw Continental’s senior leaders travel to 10 UK-sites in three weeks to meet with team members, answer questions and communicate goals. Alongside formal wellbeing and safety initatives, Continental also hosts regular team-focused social activities.
Tracey Mortimer, Managing Director for Continental in the UK and Ireland, said: “This is a huge achievement for Continental and reflective of the time, energy and commitment that our teams invest at all of our sites around the country. Together, we strive to provide people with the safety and performance they deserve for their vehicles, while also standing alongside our customers with help, guidance and support to ensure we are adding value to their business.”
