Automotive industry charity, Ben, announces that its Industry Leader Challenge (ILC) fundraiser, The Climb, has been postponed as Tanzania remains on the travel red list. It’s hoped that the event will take place in February 2022, however this depends on the Government’s travel restrictions.
Participants will tackle the National 3 Peaks Challenge during the same week, from 31st October to 3rd November, to maintain momentum in training and fundraising. This is an extremely tough challenge in itself and involves climbing the three highest peaks of Scotland, England and Wales. The total walking distance is 23 miles and the ascent is over 3,000 metres.
The ILC accounts for 10% of Ben’s total annual fundraising income, so the challengers are determined to reach the much-needed £300,000 target by the end of March 2022. A total of £50,000 has been raised so far through various fundraising initiatives.
As Ben supports a record number of automotive people with more complex and critical needs than ever before, this fundraising challenge is even more vital in helping ensure the charity can continue its work.

The industry leaders have already been tackling some tough challenges as part of their busy training regime recently – including the Yorkshire 3 Peaks last week and Mount Snowdon in July. The team have also conquered the Brecon Beacons, Edale in the Peak District and the Surrey Hills, with more tough challenges to take place throughout the year.
The total distance covered by participants so far is 726km, amounting to a height gain of 29,480m and just under 1million steps. By the end of 2021, they will have conquered a huge 1,509km and a height gain of 92,508m, which will total over 2million steps – equivalent to climbing Kilimanjaro almost 16 times!
Matt Wigginton, Director of Partnerships, Engagement & Income, said: “We’re disappointed that we can’t tackle Kili this year, so that’s why we’ve decided to take on the gruelling National 3 Peaks Challenge during the same week in November to keep us on our toes. Together with our intrepid team of industry leaders, we’re committed to challenging ourselves and raising the £300,000 we desperately need so we can continue to support our automotive family.
“Thank you to everyone who has donated to the challenge so far, you’re amazing! The ILC is a crucial part of our annual fundraising programme and, now more than ever, your support is vital. We have had a record number of automotive people ask us for help this year and last so, by donating, you’re making sure we can continue to be there, especially during these challenging times.
“All money raised through this challenge will help Ben provide much-needed support to those in our industry who have their own mountains to climb, dealing with issues each and every day.”
