A New P Zero Elect Tyre for the Limited Edition Polestar

Pirelli P Zero is the tyre chosen by Polestar for its new limited edition: the Polestar 2 BST edition 270. For the highest-performance version of the Polestar 2 to date, a UHP tyre in 245/35R21 size was created to match the specific characteristics of the car: an electric fastback with a sporty character. Pirelli responded to the manufacturer’s needs with a P Zero Elect tyre featuring a high load index and HL marking on the side. The main development objectives were tyre performance as well as enhancing the typical characteristics of an electric car, without compromising safety at any point. In fact, this P Zero has earned the highest score on the European tyre label for wet braking.

ELECT TECHNOLOGY SINCE THE VERY FIRST POLESTAR

Pirelli’s Elect marking indicates that the technologies within this P Zero tyre have been developed to complement the unique characteristics of battery-powered cars like the Polestar 2 BST edition 270. The tread compounds are specifically designed to control the 680 Nm of torque put down onto the road from the off, offering immediate grip and limiting wear caused by wheelspin. Reduced rolling resistance prolongs the life of the batteries and consequently increases the car’s range, while the reinforced structure supports the heavy weight of the batteries. Road noise is kept low so as not to compromise quietness, thanks also to Pirelli’s Noise Cancelling System (PNCS) technology – which further reduces noise thanks to the sound-absorbing sponge inside the tyre.

The original equipment created for the Polestar 2 BST edition 270 marks a new chapter in Pirelli’s collaboration with the Swedish manufacturer of exclusively electric vehicles. Polestar 1, the original car in the range, is supplied with P Zero as original equipment and was one of the first cars to be fitted with Elect-marked Pirelli tyres. Thanks also to modern virtual design techniques that enhance and accelerate development processes, the two brands continue to collaborate on new projects for the future.

HL MARKING FOR HIGH LOADS

The HL (high load) marking on the sidewall of the P Zero for the new Polestar 2 BST edition 270 indicates that the tyre is capable of supporting the car and ensuring high levels of comfort even when subjected to significant stresses, for example in sporty driving. Specifically, the HL-marked P Zero can support a weight that exceeds the weight sustained by a standard tyre by more than 20%, as well as 9% more than an XL tyre of the same size.

AN ELECTRIC PERFORMANCE CAR FOR DRIVERS

The Polestar 2 BST edition 270 has been created by Polestar as a higher performance, limited volume version of the Polestar 2 electric fastback. Only 270 units are being produced for European and North American markets. In addition to the specialised P Zero tyres on staggered 21-inch wheels, the Polestar 2 BST edition 270 features unique 2-way adjustable dampers, lowered ride height, high performance brakes, a strut bar, and an increased power output of 350 kW and 680 Nm.
