Tyre Safety Month 2026 Starts on 1 October – Act Before You REact

This year road users across the UK are being asked to do one simple thing:

Act Before You REact.

Latest research reveals a significant gap between driver confidence and real-world preparedness. While 83% of drivers believe they are in full control of their stopping distance, just 6% can correctly identify how much additional stopping distance is needed in wet conditions at motorway speeds.

Throughout October, we’ll be using this research to challenge assumptions, encourage preventative action and remind road users that when it comes to tyres, waiting until something goes wrong is too late.

Our four weekly themes will take road users from stopping distances and overconfidence through to near-misses and, ultimately, the importance of turning reaction into action.

Week 1: The Great British Brake Myth

We’re kicking off the campaign by highlighting the widespread misunderstanding around stopping distances, particularly in wet conditions.

The message is simple: you may feel in control, but if your tyres aren’t road-ready, you’re not in control of how safely your vehicle can stop.

We’re encouraging everyone to ACT by checking:

A – Air pressure
C – Condition
T – Tread

Act before you REact.

Our Members and Supporters are Getting Behind the Campaign

We’re delighted to see such strong support from across the tyre industry, with members, partners and supporters already preparing activity that will take Tyre Safety Month into communities, workshops, workplaces and the media throughout October.

Goodyear – Taking Tyre Safety into Local Communities

As a proud TyreSafe partner for 20 years, Goodyear is taking Tyre Safety Month deeper into local communities through its new Goodyear Community Champions programme.

Using the Act Before You REact campaign themes and materials, Goodyear will activate tyre safety activity across its HiQ retail network and TruckForce service network, reaching motorists, professional drivers, fleets and local communities.

HiQ dealers and TruckForce hubs will bring the four Tyre Safety Month themes to life through locally relevant activity, helping turn national awareness into practical conversations and action.

Importantly, the commitment extends beyond October, with Goodyear Community Champions providing a year-round platform for road safety, community partnerships and local engagement.

After 20 years of partnership, it’s fantastic to see Goodyear continuing to find new ways to amplify TyreSafe’s work and put tyre safety at the heart of the communities it serves.

Micheldever – Bringing the Campaign into Workshops

Our friends at Micheldever are also supporting the campaign by displaying Tyre Safety Month graphics on point-of-sale screens in their workshops and customer-facing outlets.

It’s a great way of putting the campaign messages directly in front of motorists at the point where conversations about tyres and vehicle safety are already taking place.

NTDA and BTMA – Strong Industry Support

We’re also grateful for the continued support of the NTDA and BTMA.

BTMA is cascading the ACT before you REact campaign across its committees, encouraging all areas of the Board and committees to engage with Tyre Safety Month throughout October. BTMA is also planning website content to highlight the activities of its members.

NTDA is providing extensive support through co-branded campaign materials, a dedicated email to members, editorial and promotional support through Tyre & Accessories, and a donated spread in Tyre Trade News.

And This is Just the Beginning…

We’re seeing widespread engagement from a multitude of TyreSafe members, partners and supporters, with activity taking place across the country throughout October.

From radio and regional media to community events, workshops, customer-facing activity and local road safety initiatives, our supporters will be helping to spread the tyre safety message wherever motorists are.

We’ll be sharing more examples of this activity throughout the month, showcasing the fantastic work being delivered across the industry and highlighting how we can collectively make a difference.
