TyreSafe, the UK’s charity dedicated to raising awareness of tyre safety, has announced a pioneering partnership with DAC Beachcroft, one of the UK’s leading commercial law firms with a strong heritage in insurance and particular expertise in transport regulation.
This first-of-its-kind collaboration will focus on educating fleet operators, transport managers, and business owners on the legal and regulatory implications of poor vehicle and tyre maintenance reinforcing the message that tyre safety is not only a matter of saving lives but also of compliance and corporate responsibility.
As part of the partnership, TyreSafe and DAC Beachcroft will co-produce a mock trial and a series of legal case studies based on real-world prosecutions and public cases. The filmed mock trial will recreate a scenario involving a vehicle incident linked to tyre neglect, illustrating how failures in maintenance, record-keeping, and company procedures can escalate into serious legal consequences, including Traffic Commissioner action, Operator Licence revocation, and HSE enforcement.
These resources will form a cornerstone of TyreSafe’s Fleet Risk Management education programme, offering an engaging new way to help employers understand their legal duties and encourage a culture of proactive compliance.
Rebecca Dart, Regulatory Solicitor at DAC Beachcroft, said, “Transport law and tyre safety are inextricably linked. Through this collaboration, we aim to show how lapses in vehicle and tyre maintenance can have far-reaching consequences from preventable collisions to criminal prosecution and loss of an Operator’s Licence. By presenting these lessons through a realistic courtroom scenario, we can help fleet managers and operators truly understand what’s at stake and how to protect both their businesses and the public.”
Stuart Lovatt, Chair of TyreSafe, added, “This partnership with DAC Beachcroft adds a powerful new dimension to TyreSafe’s work. For the first time, we are combining road safety education with legal insight showing that tyre safety is not only a moral responsibility but a regulatory one. By working with Rebecca and the DAC Beachcroft team, we can equip fleets, operators, and transport professionals with the knowledge to prevent incidents before they happen and to understand the potential repercussions when they don’t.”
The initiative will also hope to draw on DAC Beachcroft’s expertise in representing clients at Public Inquiries, Driver Conduct Hearings, and DVSA investigations, as well as anonymised case studies illustrating real outcomes from inadequate maintenance policies. These examples will help TyreSafe and its partners strengthen their collective education programmes around fleet risk management.
“TyreSafe has always been committed to preventing harm on our roads,” Stuart added. “This new partnership ensures we also help the fleet and transport sectors understand the legal harm that can arise from inaction.”
