Wang Feng Highlights Linglong’s Carbon Neutrality Vision

China will present its own pavilion at the 30th UN Climate Change Conference, which will take place from 10 to 21 November in Belem, the capital of the Brazilian state of Para, where it will present its achievements and goals regarding the global climate to the international community.

Representing China’s industrial transformation, Wang Feng, President and CEO of Linglong Tire, gave a keynote speech in which he reported on Linglong Tire’s environmental developments and goals: Linglong commits to significantly reducing CO2 emissions by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, i.e. a decade ahead of the timetable set out in the Paris Agreement for Chinese companies, thus Linglong is pursuing the same goal internally as including the European Union.

Linglong is already reducing carbon emissions through efficient energy use, sustainable tyre development and intelligent supply chain management. The goal is to reduce carbon emissions by 52.07% by 2035 to achieve climate neutrality by 2050 at the latest. The company focuses on five core elements in particular: new materials, advanced technologies, modern processes, smart machines and sustainable and environmentally friendly energy.

Last year, Linglong presented a concept tyre that consists of 79% sustainable materials, by 2028 Linglong wants to increase the proportion of sustainable materials in each tyre to 85%, by 2040 all tyres are to be made of 100% sustainable materials. The use of bio-based feedstocks such as biotechnical (itaconate) rubber, rice husk ash or corn-based silica serve to replace traditional petroleum-based raw materials and thereby reduce carbon emissions by up to 35%. Linglong became the first Chinese tyre manufacturer to join the Global Platform for Sustainable Natural Rubber (GPSNR) and is working with other members to improve sustainability in the natural rubber sector globally. Linglong supports FSC-certified natural rubber projects to support the livelihoods of rubber farmers, contribute to the preservation of forests and to protect the rights of workers, indigenous peoples and local communities. In the field of resource recycling, Linglong promotes the use of liquid waste rubber and pyrolysis carbon black to effectively use waste tyres and ensure a closed resource cycle.

Linglong CEO Wang Feng emphasised that the dual-carbon roadmap is not only a commitment to environmental protection but also revolutionises the entire production process. The company will do everything it can to achieve its environmental goals and provide consumers worldwide with environmentally friendly, sustainable and high-quality mobility solutions to leave a clean and beautiful planet for generations to come.
