Giti Tire Sets 472.41 km/h Record with BYD Prototype

Giti Tire has announced a breakthrough achievement as its GitiSport e.GTR2 Pro tyres powered BYD’s Engineering Prototype Vehicle to a record-breaking top speed of 472.41 km/h at Germany’s ATP proving grounds on August 8, 2025.

This milestone underscores Giti’s leadership in tyre innovation for the next generation of high-performance electric vehicles.

From Pitch to Record

Giti began working with BYD on the Engineering Prototype Vehicle project in April 2023, presenting its proven expertise in motorsport and advanced tyre development. Following the completion of the first prototype in March 2024, test runs quickly advanced:

  • July 2024 (Yancheng, China): 375 km/h achieved.
  • September – October 2024 (ATP, Germany): 391.93 km/h, a new record for Chinese EVs.
  • June 2025 (indoor test): 500 km/h achieved, validating tyre durability under extreme load.
  • August 2025: Engineering Prototype Vehicle reached 472.41 km/h with the production-ready GitiSport e.GTR2 Pro.

Tire Technology for Extreme EVs

The demands of electric supercars, often weighing 1,900–2,800 kg with more than 1,000 horsepower, require extraordinary tyre performance. The GitiSport e.GTR2 Pro incorporates:

  • Reinforced Compounds & Aramid Fibres for unmatched strength and load capacity.
  • RaceGrip Pro Formulation delivering 38% more grip with a wider operating range.
  • Anti-Standing Wave Technology enabling speeds up to 500 km/h.
  • Rapid Warm-Up Additives reducing tyre priming time by 60%.
  • Bionic Sidewall Design boosting response and cornering stability.

The tyre complies with CCC/ECE regulations and rivals the performance of leading street-legal track tyres.

Sustainable Innovation, Motorsport DNA

Developed with environmentally responsible production methods, the GitiSport e.GTR2 Pro reflects Giti’s low-carbon global objectives. The tyre integrates motorsport-tested technologies into a platform that will expand into the GitiSport e Series, a future line-up of street-legal performance tires for electric vehicles.

During the record test, Giti’s technical team led by Zhang Rui and Sebastian from the Chinese and European R&D Centres respectively supported tyre strategies, pressure regulation, and on-site performance monitoring.

Looking Ahead

“We are proud to have partnered with BYD on this landmark achievement,” said Ge Feng Lei, Deputy General Manager, Project Management Department, Giti Research & Development Centre. “The GitiSport e.GTR2 Pro demonstrates our ability to push the boundaries of tyre technology while preparing for the rise of electric supercars and motorsports.”
