Bridgestone Announces Collective Dismissal Process for Cantabria and Basque Country Plants

Bridgestone Hispania Manufacturing has announced it has formally notified employee representatives of its intention to initiate a collective dismissal procedure. Plants being affected by this procedure are located in Puente San Miguel (Cantabria), agricultural truck and bus radial tyre plant, and Basauri (Basque Country), truck and bus radial tyre plant.  This announcement is driven by the profound changes occurring in the European tyre market and the need to adapt the company’s production structure.

The agricultural radial (AGR) and truck and bus radial (TBR) tyre sectors have experienced a significant contraction due to a challenging macroeconomic environment characterised by inflation, uncertainty and regulatory changes. Furthermore, the rise of non-European manufacturers, who have progressively gained an increasing market share, has led to heightened competitive pressure.  The challenging market situation as well as the market structural changes have necessitated an adjustment of production capacity to enhance their competitiveness and pursue sustainability in the industry.

Bridgestone Hispania Manufacturing reaffirms its commitment to an open and transparent dialogue process, acknowledging the uncertainty and potential impact this process may have on employees. The company is conducting the process in the most responsible and respectful manner possible towards its workforce, in collaboration with employee representatives and in line with its values of integrity and social responsibility.
