Yet More Honours For Kumho

It Has Now Won All Four Of The World’s Top Design Awards In 2020

Kumho has been presented with the Good Design Award 2020 for two of its new products, the Solus HA32 and PorTran CW11. Having already scooped the German iF Design and Red Dot accolades as well the American IDEA Design Award, the South Korean tyre manufacturer has now achieved the extraordinary feat of winning all four of the world’s top design awards in the same year.

Solus HA32

The multi award-winning HA32’s new cutting-edge compound and zigzag V-shaped tread pattern bring notable improvements in wet weather performance, earning the tyre a grade B label for wet grip. Other features such as its three-dimensional interlocking sipes ensure impressive handling in all conditions.

HA32 is ideal for drivers seekingoptimumperformance and reliability in all weathers, and is initially available in sizes of 14 to 18 inch for a wide spectrum of passenger cars. Unlike dedicated winter tyres, Kumho’s all-season products are manufactured all the year round, so supply can be quickly adjusted to meet consumer demand.

Winter PorTran CW11

CW11 is a winter pattern aimed at light commercial vehicles, and has been optimised for negotiating snow and ice-covered roads in the coldest areas of Europe. The reinforced central tread blocks and robust belt structure help maximise overall grip and driving stability. The zigzag grooves in the centre and shoulder of the tyre provide excellent levels of water dispersal and high levels of traction on snow.

Hosted by the Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organisation, the Good Design Award is the most prestigious such international competition to emanate from Japan and, with a history of no less than 63 years, enjoys worldwide recognition. Winners are granted the G-Mark following evaluation of their design, usability and innovative features. The award is divided into five categories and Kumho’s success came in the sub-division of that for transportation equipment and industrial facility.

“This award is further global recognition of our design excellence and technological prowess,” said Jung Il-Taik, head of Kumho’s R&D division. “By winning all four the world’s major design awards this year we have regained our position as a technology leader, and through continued innovation hope to earn even more such honours in the future.”
