Two-Time CrossCar Champ Andersson Steps Up To Supercar Lites In 2020

Two-time CrossCar Champion Nils Andersson will take the next step in his burgeoning career as he graduates to RallyX Nordic presented by Cooper Tires’ Supercar Lites class this year, where he is bidding to follow in the wheeltracks of his World Championship-winning mentor.

Andersson successfully defended his hard-fought CrossCar crown on home soil at Tierp Arena last September, leaving him perfectly-placed to accelerate up through the gears in 2020. Following a winter of evaluation, the 20-year-old Swede has elected to make the move into the popular, single-make Supercar Lites category in Scandinavia’s premier rallycross series, which will rev into life at the legendary Höljes circuit on 23/24 May.

“I’m really excited to drive in rallycross this year – it’s what I have been dreaming of since I was a small boy,” he enthused. “I know I’m in for a big challenge, being new in a class up against many drivers with years of experience, but one of the main things I like about the Supercar Lites concept is that everybody has the same car at their disposal. That pushes drivers to really develop their skills – every last detail is important. Before the first event at Höljes, I will make sure that I am 100 per cent ready.”

Andersson is set to contest the full, eight-round RallyX Nordic season, and is hoping to emulate the achievements of the likes of Kevin Hansen, Sebastian Eriksson, Thomas Bryntesson, Guillaume De Ridder, Ben-Philip Gundersen and brothers Kevin and Oliver Eriksson in using Supercar Lites as a springboard to reach the pinnacle of the sport – Supercars.

His mentor Kristoffersson – FIA World Rallycross Champion in both 2017 and 2018 – is confident his young charge has what it takes to shine in what is always a fiercely-contested discipline.

“After considerable success in CrossCar, it will be an exciting challenge for Nils to step up to rallycross and Supercar Lites – in the same series in which I began my own journey towards becoming World Champion,” remarked the Swede.

Jan-Erik Steen, CEO of RallyX Nordic promoter, RX Promotion, is similarly looking forward to tracking Andersson’s progress in Supercar Lites over the upcoming months.

“I have personally followed Nils’ career since he started in motorsport, and it is inspiring to see talented young drivers take the next step in their careers with a clear target and focus,” he remarked. “Nils is just such an example, coming from CrossCar with the ambition to be the best driver in Supercar Lites for future development. RallyX Nordic’s purpose is to provide a platform to support young drivers in their quest to become future champions.”
