As the year draws to a close, Maxxis UK is reminiscing on a string of victories for its sponsored riders, with the brand’s market leading technology helping power some of Britain’s top athletes and riders to cycling dominance in 2018.
With a rich mix of athletes sporting the brand’s colours, Maxxis UK started the cycling season in style, with 27-year-old Canyon Eisberg rider Alex Paton clinching the first road victory of the season at Purfs Pedal on Maxxis’ Campione tyres. The UCI Continental team would go on to further success in May, as 23-year-old Harry Tanfield became the first ever British rider to pull on the leader’s points, sprint and aggressive rider jerseys in the Tour de Yorkshire. Crucial to Harry’s success was the Maxxis Padrone TR tyre, which would play a vital role later that month in the OVO Energy Tour Series. Reaching its grand final in the historic city of Salisbury on May 31st, Canyon Eisberg saw off the challenge of rivals Madison Genesis to clinch the Tour Series championship title in thrilling fashion. Summarising the team’s performance, Canyon Eisberg bagged a total of three overall round wins, as well as the Time Trial Series championship title.
September brought yet more cycling dominance for Maxxis UK, as it debuted its new High Road tyre at the renowned OVO Energy Tour of Britain 2018. Canyon Eisberg secured a trio of top ten finishes on the advanced rubber, with Paton emerging victorious in the Eisberg sprints classification to secure a debut victory for the premium clincher on its first ever outing. The resounding success of the tyre, following on from the accomplishments of the Maxxis Padrone TR earlier in the year, demonstrated how the firm is elevating its road cycling range to the next level of competitive performance.
Meanwhile, 2018 was no exception on the BMX front for Maxxis UK, with the Pure Bicycle team not only securing the elite team title, but also retaining their crown as the number one team in the National BMX Series last month. Individually, Maxxis UK sponsored rider Alan Hill won his 23rd and 24th National Series titles, while Britain’s Kyle Evans fended off stiff competition on Maxxis’ Torch tyre to grab a gold medal in Glasgow as part of the European Championships over the summer. Just last month, Evans also took his first steps towards Tokyo 2020, securing a second-place finish in his heat as part of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup in Argentina.
Off-road, Maxxis UK also led the charge, as the testing turns and twisting trails of ‘Ard Rock returned to Swaledale for its 2018 installment. Downhill legend Steve Peat took home first prize in the ‘Ard Rock Enduro event, battling it out alongside Madison Saracen rider Danny Hart to give Maxxis UK a top two finish in the main category. Meanwhile, one half of the rising Jones brothers Jono dominated the Maxxis Pump Track Championships for a second year running, seeing off the challenge of seven other contestants on the Saturday evening of the three-day festival in August.
